THE SILENCE OF HUMAN SENSES

(User Research)
(UX/UI Design)
The pandemic has shifted our daily lives, and the function of our vision, hearing, smell, touch, and taste has changed or been damaged. After COVID, we have come to think again about our five senses that we have not paid much attention to.

The project explores how COVID has brought about a sensory revolution and how we can be aware of and appreciate our five senses through an editorial design and a hypothetical exhibition.

(Editorial Design) The book unfolds the emptiness that envelopes our senses through a collection of photographs taken during the pandemic. Since it was the moment when our five senses disappeared, the title reflects the profound absence and the rediscovery of our sensory experiences.

The book consists of five chapters. The first chapter discusses what our current sensory revolution is. The following four chapters each focus on the loss of a sense: touch, smell and taste, hearing, and sight.

(Exhibition Posters)The poster series adopts the same visual approach as the book to advertise exhibition details.
(Motion Posters)The motion poster responds to sounds in public spaces. Audiences can have a different experience depending on the surrounding environment and how it is visualized.

(Exhibition Experience)The exhibition installation offers an immersive experience by translating everyday sounds into abstract forms, which are then influenced by the surrounding environment. The five columns symbolize our five senses. Each sound is portrayed in different colors and shapes created in After Effects, becoming a medium of visual language. The prototype of the exhibition experience was created using MadMapper.
